Air Travel

Austin's international airport is entirely self-sustaining, generating its revenue to cover its operating costs.

Austin’s land and air transportation are favorable for materials distribution and business travel. Distribution takes advantage of the region’s location in Central Texas at the intersection of I-35 and a network of U.S. and state highways.

Three of the nation’s 10 largest cities – Houston, San Antonio and Dallas – are no more than three hours away. Laredo, a major port of entry from Mexico is four hours away. State Highway 130, one of several recently completed roadway improvement projects speeding goods and traffic flow through Austin, connects to I-35 north of Georgetown and to I-10 east of San Antonio.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) is centrally located within the metropolitan area, less than 8 miles from downtown. AUS is 34 miles from the metro’s northernmost major community, Georgetown, and 34 miles from the metro’s southernmost major community, San Marcos.

The Austin Airport has nonstop service to more than 90 destinations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central America, and Europe, and served over 22 million passengers in 2023.

Airlines operating out of Austin’s airport include Aeromexico, Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, American, British Airways, Copa, Delta, Frontier, Hawaiian, JetBlue, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, Southwest, Spirit, Sun Country, United, and Viva Aerobus.

Cargo shipped from The Austin Airport in 2023 totaled over 283 million pounds.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is owned and operated by the City of Austin but the airport is entirely self-sustaining, generating its revenue to cover its operating costs. The airport has begun a multiyear expansion and development program to meet the future needs of Austin with improvements ranging from terminal expansion to new parking facilities.
