Acutronic’s Major Expansion across the Austin Region
Situation
Originally founded in Switzerland and in Pittsburgh, the Acutronic Group has been a leader in high-performance motion simulation and test equipment for more than 50 years. Acutronic established the Aerospace Components Division in Austin, Texas in 2019. Since settling in the Austin area, Acutronic’s Aerospace business has grown considerably. This has precipitated a need for dedicated engineering and manufacturing space, including specialized test cells for turbines. The company also wished to preserve flexibility for future growth and office reconfiguration.
Why Austin?
Acutronic chose the Austin region for its Aerospace Components Division due to its passion for innovation. The Army Futures Command’s ecosystem of technological research aligns with Acutronic’s goals.
Austin’s key draw was its ability to recruit talent. Acutronic’s team combines local hires with those who relocated for the job. Austin’s appeal allowed Acutronic to build a diverse team, leveraging the skilled local workforce and attracting new talent. Opportunity Austin, Bastrop ISD, and regional partners collaborated on workforce recruitment and training, including Acutronic’s Apprenticeship Alliance, a paradigm shift in connecting education with industry.
This investment is a natural progression for us...We will continue to benefit from the world-class talent pool and collaborative business environment of Central Texas. Expanding our footprint in the region will augment Austin’s advanced manufacturing and aerospace leadership through the design and production of cutting-edge products in support of the nation’s most important defense programs.
- Florian Aigrain, CEO of Acutronic
Outcome
Continued growth and success led Acutronic to establish the global headquarters of its Aerospace Components Divisions in Austin. Opening in the summer of 2024, the newly renovated divisional headquarters will host close to 100 employees.
Acutronic has acquired nearly 14 acres of land in the city of Bastrop, where they will build the only jet engine manufacturing facility in the state. Additionally, Acutronic is partnering with Bastrop ISD to establish a first of its kind apprenticeship program. Beginning in 2025, Cedar Creek High School Advanced Manufacturing P-TECH juniors can apply for this impactful, hands-on training program. Apprentices will receive one-on-one mentorship and will be able to choose between a full-time job offer or higher education support upon high school graduation.
