INSIGHTS

  • There were approximately 63,366 available job postings during our January 2026 monthly reporting period, a decrease of 4,111 jobs from 67,477 postings when compared to January 2025. New, first-time job postings totaled 25,022 in January and represented 40% of all available job postings, a 2% increase from December 2025. Regional new job postings decreased by 2.9% in the Austin-San Antonio metros, while Houston-Dallas metros saw a 1.9% increase compared to the previous month.
  • Approximately 13%, or 8,424, of all available job postings during the February 2026 reporting period fell under Management occupations, while 6,415 available job postings fell under Healthcare Practitioners and Technical occupations, and an additional 2,183 fell under Healthcare Support. This combined total reflects 8,598 postings in healthcare occupations and shows consistently strong demand for healthcare talent in our region. Sales-related postings totaled 6,976 and were 11% of total postings available. Computer and math-related postings totaled 6,362 and were 10% of total available job postings for this reporting period.
  • A total of 1,867 postings offered “signing bonuses,” a marginal decrease of 81 postings from the previous month.
  • Fifty-three percent, or 33,686, of available job postings pay an annual median wage between $25,000 to $75,000. Of these, 46%, or 15,618, will require a high school diploma as the entry-level education, and 12%, or 4,108, will require associate or bachelor’s degrees.
  • There are about 918 internship positions posted, in-person or hybrid. The top three companies with the most postings are Amazon, State of Texas, and IBM.
  • There are 1,339 jobs posted within the Austin venture capital, startup, scaleup, and innovation ecosystem on the Austin Ecosystem Dealroom Platform for this reporting period.
  • For December 2025 and January 2026, the Austin region saw a total of 4,383 jobs announced through new relocations or expansion plans. Announcing new location plans were companies such as Anywaves Federal (10 jobs), Compal/Compal USA (1,000 jobs), Perseus Defense (130 jobs), Southwest Airlines (2,000 jobs), and Togetherwork (250 jobs). Announcing expansion plans were Creative 3D (45 jobs), Valstad Shipworks (18 jobs), CesiumAstro (500 jobs), EOS (10 jobs), Neurophos (55 jobs), Transpak (325 jobs), and WebAI (50 jobs).
  • Job postings measured in this report refer to employers who are actively advertising online. It is not a representation of job openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month.
  • This report uses Lightcast’s Developer tool, which deduplicates job postings. Developer codes job postings to SOC 2018 occupational codes, allowing for more granular reporting on occupational trends, and uses HWOL datasets aligned with mid-monthly unemployment figures.

Top 20 Job Postings and Annual Median Wages

For the top 20 job postings, 60% require some form of postsecondary education beyond high school as the typical entry-level education, and 59% pay an annual median salary over $65,000.

For all job postings under management occupations, 83% require a bachelor’s degree as the typical entry-level education. The top three job postings in this category are Sales Managers, Marketing Managers, and General and Operations Managers.

Top 10 Tech Job Postings and Annual Median Wages

For all job postings under tech occupations, 95% require a bachelor’s degree or more as the typical entry-level education. The top three postings in this category are Pharmacy Technicians, Health Technologists and Technicians, and Registered Nurses.

Top 10 Healthcare Job Postings and Annual Median Wages

For all job postings under healthcare occupations, 95% require some form of postsecondary education beyond high school as the typical entry-level education, and 75% require at least a bachelor’s degree. The top three job postings in this category are Registered Nurses, Health Technologists and Technicians, and Pharmacy Technicians.

Top 10 Healthcare Support Job Postings and Annual Median Wages

For all job postings under Healthcare Support occupations, 61% required a postsecondary credential that is more than a high school diploma but less than a bachelor’s degree as the typical entry-level education. The top three job postings in this category are Home Health and Personal Care Aides, Medical Assistants, and Nursing Assistants.

Top 20 Skills in Greatest Demand

The top three common skills in demand by employers include communication, customer service, and management, a reflection of the overall demand for talent in management occupations.

Top 20 Certifications in Greatest Demand

Thirteen out of the top 20 in-demand certifications are healthcare-related, with the largest demand for registered nurses, basic life support, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
