INSIGHTS

  • There were approximately 77,549 available job postings during our April 2026 monthly reporting period, an increase of 4,477 jobs from 73,072 postings when compared to March 2026. New, first-time job postings totaled 31,798 in April and represented 41% of all available job postings, a 3% increase from March 2026. Regional new job postings increased by 4.6% in the Austin-San Antonio metros, while Houston-Dallas metros saw an 8.7% increase compared to the previous month.
  • Approximately 13%, or 10,369, of all available job postings during the April 2026 reporting period fell under Management occupations, while 7,339 available job postings fell under Healthcare Practitioners and Technical occupations, and an additional 2,211 fell under Healthcare Support. This combined total reflects 9,550 postings in healthcare occupations and shows consistently strong demand for healthcare talent in our region. Sales-related postings totaled 8,562 and were 11% of total postings available. Computer and math-related postings totaled 8,413 and were 11% of total available job postings for this reporting period.
  • A total of 2,031 postings offered “signing bonuses,” a marginal increase of 73 postings from the previous month.
  • Fifty-four percent, or 41,960, of available job postings pay an annual median wage between $25,000 and $75,000. Of these, 46%, or 19,266, will require a high school diploma as the entry-level education, and 19%, or 8,058, will require associate or bachelor’s degrees.
  • There are about 1,154 internship positions posted, in-person or hybrid. The top three companies with the most postings are Amazon, the State of Texas, and Tesla.
  • There are 1,819 jobs posted within the Austin venture capital, startup, scaleup, and innovation ecosystem on the Austin Ecosystem Dealroom Platform for this reporting period.
  • For March 2026 and April 2026, the Austin region saw a total of 280 jobs announced through new relocations or expansion plans. Announcing new location plans were companies such as Epoka (10 jobs), Melagen Labs, Synthesia (12 jobs), xAI, Bespoke Partners (22 jobs), Exowatt (10 jobs), and Learfield (25 jobs). Announcing expansion plans were Halcyon, OriGen (130 jobs), Samsung, TerraFirma (25 jobs), TNT Crane and Rigging, Artivion, Closinglock (30 jobs), Infinity Link Logistics, Tesla (Terafab), and ZT Systems.
  • For the April reporting period, the Austin MSA had an unemployment rate of 3.4%, totaling approximately 52,300 unemployed residents. There were approximately 25,249 more jobs than unemployed residents in the Austin MSA.
  • Job postings measured in this report refer to employers who are actively advertising online. It is not a representation of job openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month.
  • This report uses Lightcast’s Developer tool, which deduplicates job postings. Developer codes job postings to SOC 2018 occupational codes, allowing for more granular reporting on occupational trends, and uses HWOL datasets aligned with mid-monthly unemployment figures.

For the top 20 job postings, 66% require some form of postsecondary education beyond high school as the typical entry-level education, and 59% pay an annual median salary over $65,000.

For all job postings under management occupations, 86% require a bachelor’s degree as the typical entry-level education. The top three job postings in this category are Marketing Managers, General and Operations Managers, and Sales Managers.

For all job postings under tech occupations, 96% require a bachelor’s degree or more as the typical entry-level education. The top three postings in this category are Software Developers, Computer Occupations (All Other), and Data Scientists.

Top 10 Healthcare Job Postings and Annual Median Wages

For all job postings under healthcare occupations, 96% require some form of postsecondary education beyond high school as the typical entry-level education, and 76% require at least a bachelor’s degree. The top three job postings in this category are Registered Nurses, Health Technologists and Technicians, and Physical Therapists.

Top 10 Healthcare Support Job Postings and Annual Median Wages

For all job postings under Healthcare Support occupations, 63% required a postsecondary credential that is more than a high school diploma but less than a bachelor’s degree as the typical entry-level education. The top three job postings in this category are Home Health and Personal Care Aides, Medical Assistants, and Dental Assistants.

Top 20 Skills in Greatest Demand

The top three common skills in demand by employers include communication, customer service, and management, a reflection of the overall demand for talent in management occupations.

Top 20 Certifications in Greatest Demand

Thirteen out of the top 20 in-demand certifications are healthcare-related, with the largest demand for registered nurses, basic life support, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
