By acting as the “matchmaker” between international investors and local startups, Opportunity Austin has successfully funneled substantial foreign capital into Austin’s regional economy through strategic meetings and international delegations coordinated by the Global Technology and Innovation (GTI) team. These efforts have allowed OA to engage with high-net-worth investors and capital allocators to foster relationships that bring more investment and growth to our local economy, ensuring that Austin not only remains a hub of innovation but continues to thrive as a global economic powerhouse.

A-List / Increasing Startup Visibility
During OA 4.0, we hosted four annual A-List awards to increase visibility for the Austin Region’s home-grown companies. By promoting these startups, we create a compelling narrative that attracts investors, fostering more interest and investment in these startups. Ultimately, increasing job creation and technological innovation in our region.
Since 2019, a remarkable 734 innovative startups have earned nominations for the A-List awards, with 73 of them emerging as victorious in their respective categories. Over the past five years, the A-List awards have drawn thousands of attendees, including local founders, entrepreneurs, startups, investors, venture capitalists, and private equity firms, significantly amplifying the visibility and recognition of these startups throughout the region. Winners of the A-List awards receive a host of benefits including access to Capital Factory, Central Texas Angel Network, Austin Technology Council, and SXSW.
Startup Assistance
Supporting startups is vital for fostering innovation, economic growth, and job creation, contributing to a dynamic and competitive entrepreneurial ecosystem. Throughout Opportunity Austin 4.0, we have actively supported over 150 startups by facilitating their access to funding, connecting them with crucial community resources, and guiding them to optimal locations for their business operations. Moreover, Opportunity Austin has delivered more than 1,700 noteworthy outcomes with startups, ranging from promising leads to impactful projects and valuable partnerships, highlighting the tangible success stories that have blossomed through our dedicated efforts under this initiative.
Strategic Partnerships
Opportunity Austin’s strategic partnerships are pivotal to advancing Austin’s startup and investment landscape.
Launched in August 2022 with Dealroom.co, the Dealroom platform is the first open-source online platform for entrepreneurs in the country. With over 4,100 startups utilizing the platform, Dealroom has yielded more than 5,000 funding rounds to date. The Dealroom ecosystem provides a resource for entrepreneurs to successfully build and grow their companies. Due to this platform, we can now better understand our startup ecosystem, connect startups with investors, and better support entrepreneurs navigating our ecosystem.
- Founders Institute
Our 2023 partnership with the Texas Founders Institute has bolstered Austin’s entrepreneurial scene, offering accelerator programs, mentorship, and networking for early-stage startups. Overcoming COVID-19’s hurdles, Opportunity Austin facilitated a new space for the Founder’s Institute to host in-person sessions. Since then, the Founders Institute has been thriving with many graduates going onto later stage accelerators. The organization has 150+ active mentors in the Austin area.
- Central Texas Angel Network (CTAN)
Investment Networks Collaborating with the Central Texas Angel Network (CTAN), Opportunity Austin hosts quarterly orientations, creating opportunities for startups to meet with investors. This initiative has been instrumental in providing entrepreneurs with a platform to secure funding and drive regional innovation.
