Otsuka ICU Medical JV brings $500M expansion to NW Austin pharmaceutical manufacturing site

A 500-sq-ft building is being added to the campus where IV bags are made

The planned expansion of a Northwest Austin pharmaceutical manufacturing plantby a multi-national joint venture will nearly double the complex’s size and cost a whopping $500 million.

Otsuka ICU Medical LLC hopes to begin site work for the new project later this month and break ground in August, ICU Medical Inc. Senior Director of Science and Technology Kent Hamaker said. The entity behind the investment is a joint venture between California-based ICU Medical (Nasdaq: ICUI) and Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory America Inc., a subsidiary of Japan-based Otsuka Pharmaceutical Factory Inc.

ICU Medical has been in the Austin region for 20+ years and is excited by this international investment marking their next chapter.
