Southwest Airlines Co. plans to launch a crew base in Austin next year, officials announced Dec. 12.
It’s part of the Dallas-based airline’s plan to triple its employment base in Austin and continue to grow its operations at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, where it’s already the dominant carrier, CEO Bob Jordan said during a Dec. 12 press conference with local and state officials. Almost $20 million in state and city incentives have been earmarked for the project.
Southwest aims to have 200 daily flights out of ABIA, up from 130 flights currently, Jordan said.
