INSIGHTS

  • Approximately 59,100 available job postings were available during the November 2023 monthly reporting period, an increase from 57,700 postings when compared to October 2023. There were 22,048 new (first-time) job postings, a decrease of 2,892 first-time postings when compared to the previous month. New job postings in November 2023 represented 37% of all available job postings, 6% less than in October. New job postings decreased by about 12 % in the Austin and San Antonio metros and 12% decrease in the Houston and Dallas metros compared to the prior month.
  • Approximately 14% or 7,279 of all available job postings during the November 2023 reporting period fell under Management Occupations while 6,340 available job postings fell under Healthcare Practitioners and Technical, showing continued strong demand for experienced and healthcare talent in our region.
  • About 1191 postings indicate vaccination requirements, an increase of 51 postings compared to the previous month. Top employers mentioning vaccination requirements include Texas Children Hospital, Austin Regional Clinic and JLL. 
  • 2,015 postings offered “signing bonuses,” a decrease of 84 postings when compared to the previous month. 
  • 59% (35,173) of available job postings pay an annual median wage between $25,000 to $75,000. Of these, 47% or 16,369 will require a high school diploma as the entry-level education, and 41% or 14,394 will require at least a bachelor’s degree. 
  • About 784 internship positions are posted, in-person or remote. The top three companies with the most postings are Amazon, AMD and Arm Agence De Recouvrement. 
  • About 2,413 jobs are posted within the Austin venture capital, startup, scaleup, and innovation ecosystem on the Austin Ecosystem Dealroom Platform as of November 12, 2023.
  • According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Austin MSA reported the unemployment rate at 3.3% in November 2023, slightly lower  than the prior month. The total number of unemployed in the Austin MSA is about 48,700. In November 2023, there were 10,400 more available job postings than the unemployed – a 6,800 decrease compared to the prior month.  
  • This past month, the Austin region saw a total of about 235 jobs announced through new relocations or expansion plans.  Announcing new location plans were companies such as, Grander Distributing (Houston, TX) creating 15 jobs, Infleqtion (Boulder, CO) creating 15 jobs, The expansion list representing over 205 jobs includes Black Ore, Dotowk, Enphase Energy, Navan and Skybox Datacenters.  
  • Job postings measured in this report refer to employers who are actively advertising online. It is not a representation of job openings, which measures all positions that are open (not filled) on the last business day of the month.
  • This report uses Lightcast’s Developer tool which deduplicates job postings. Developer codes job postings to SOC 2018 occupational codes, allowing for more granular reporting on occupational trends, and uses HWOL datasets aligned with mid-monthly unemployment figures.

There are 24% less available job postings in November 2023 than in November 2022. New job postings declined 27% from November 2022.

For the top 25 job postings, 44% require some form of postsecondary education beyond high school as the typical entry-level education, and 36% pay an annual median salary over $65,000.

For all job postings under management occupations78% require a bachelor’s degree, or more,as the typical entry-level education. 

In this category, Managers, All Other, have the most job postings.

For all job postings under computer and mathematical occupations, 92% require a bachelor’s degree or more as the typical entry-level education. 

In this category, Software Developers have the most job postings.

Top 10 Healthcare Job Postings and Annual Median Wages

For all job postings under healthcare occupations, 95% require some form of postsecondary education beyond high school as the typical entry-level education, and 63% require at least a Bachelor’s degree.

In this category, Registered Nurses have the most job postings.

Top 10 Healthcare Support Job Postings and Annual Median Wages

For all job postings under Healthcare Support occupations, 63% require a postsecondary credential that is more than a high school diploma but less than a bachelor’s degree as the typical entry-level education.  

Home Health and Personal Care Aides had the most job postings in this occupational category.

Top 25 Skills in Greatest Demand

The top three common skills in demand by employers include communications, management, and sales, likely a reflection of the overall demand for talent in management occupations.

Top 25 Certificates in Greatest Demand

Thirteen out of the top 25 in-demand certifications are healthcare-related with the largest demand for registered nurses, basic life support, and cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary care.

Top 25 Employers

Top job posting employers, St. David’s Healthcare Partnership and The University of Texas System, drive demand for talent in healthcare and supporting occupations. Other top employers include Ascension, City of Austin and HCA Healthcare.

There were approximately 70,332 available job postings during our February 2026 monthly reporting period, an increase of 6,966 jobs from 63,336 postings when compared to January 2026.

There were approximately 63,366 available job postings during our January 2026 monthly reporting period, a decrease of 4,111 jobs from 67,477 postings when compared to January 2025. New, first-time job postings totaled 25,022 in January and represented 40% of all available job postings, a 2% increase from December 2025. Regional new job postings decreased by 2.9% in the Austin-San Antonio metros, while Houston-Dallas metros saw a 1.9% increase compared to the previous month.

There were approximately 67,477 available job postings during our January 2026 monthly reporting period, a decrease of 1,710 from 69,187 postings when compared to December 2025.

There were approximately 67,588 available job postings during our June 2025 reporting period, a decrease of 1,024 from 68,612 postings in May 2025.
