There were approximately 61,730 available job postings during the December 2024 reporting period, a decrease of 4,099 from the 65,818 postings in November 2024. There were 23,329 first-time job postings, a decrease of 3,849 compared to the previous month. New job postings in December 2024 represented 38% of all available job postings, a decrease of 4% from November 2024. New job postings decreased by 12% in the Austin and San Antonio metros, while the Houston and Dallas metros saw an 18% decrease compared to the previous month.
Approximately 12%, or 7,685, of all available job postings during the December 2024 reporting period fell under Management Occupations, while 6,335 postings fell under Healthcare Practitioners and Technical, and an additional 1,944 fell under Healthcare Support. This combined total of 8,279 healthcare-related postings highlights the strong demand for healthcare talent in the region.
There are currently about 784 postings indicating vaccination requirements, a decrease of 56 compared to the previous month. Top employers mentioning vaccination requirements include CBRE, CVS Health, and Gap.
A total of 1,839 postings offered “signing bonuses,” a decrease of 69 compared to the previous month.
Fifty-five percent, or 34,025, of available job postings pay an annual median wage between $25,000 and $75,000. Of these, 48%, or 16,144, require a high school diploma as the entry-level education, while 16%, or 5,576, require at least a bachelor’s degree.
There are about 1,056 internship positions posted, both in-person and remote. The top three companies with the most postings are Amazon, Baylor Scott & White, and the State of Texas.
There were about 1,990 jobs posted within the Austin venture capital, startup, scaleup, and innovation ecosystem on the Austin Ecosystem Dealroom Platform as of December 12, 2024.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Austin MSA reported an unemployment rate of 3.5% in November 2024, with an increase of less than 0.1% from the prior month. The total number of unemployed in the Austin MSA is about 53,300. In December 2024, there were 8,430 more available job postings than unemployed individuals, a decrease of 4,688 compared to the prior month.
In December 2024, the Austin region saw a total of about 207 jobs announced through new relocations or expansion plans. Companies announcing new location plans included Colovore (Santa Clara, California), creating 30 jobs, and Hanaro One Way (Seocho-gu, South Korea), creating 20 jobs. The expansion list represents 157 new jobs, with contributions from companies such as Four Hands and ZALL Enterprises.
