Closing 2024 with Momentum, Looking Ahead to 2025
As 2024 comes to a close, I want to reflect on the achievements that have shaped this year and set the stage for what’s ahead.
This year, we’ve worked tirelessly to tell the story of Opportunity Austin and the Austin region as a whole. From launching our new brand and establishing the Opportunity Austin councils to fostering international relationships through trade shows, recruitment trips, and hosting global delegates, our efforts have been supported by a community deeply committed to driving regional success. Together, we celebrated innovation at the 13th A-LIST Awards and advocated for critical public safety initiatives, including the approval of the new police contract, reinforcing our goal of making Austin the best place to live and work.
Recent announcements showcase the region’s ongoing growth. BillionToOne’s expansion in North Austin will bring over 1,000 jobs to the life sciences sector, while Samsung’s second factory in Taylor represents a $40 billion investment, solidifying our position as a hub for high-tech manufacturing. Across the region, companies such as Acutronic, EnergyX, Wondercide, US Foods, Futronic, and X have announced relocations and expansions, further fueling our growth.
These achievements are a testament not only to the hard work of our team but also to the active support and engagement of our investors, partners, and the broader community.
Here’s to a strong close to 2024 and an exciting year ahead.
— Ed Latson, CEO, Opportunity Austin
