INSIGHTS
- There were approximately 56,360 available job postings during the December 2023 monthly reporting period, a decrease from 59,100 postings when compared to November 2023. There were 18,771 new (first-time) job postings, a decrease of 3,277 first-time postings when compared to the previous month. New job postings in December 2023 represented 33% of all available job postings, 4% less than in November. New job postings decreased by about 16 % in the Austin and San Antonio metros and 9% decrease in the Houston and Dallas metros compared to the prior month.
- Approximately 13% or 7,044 of all available job postings during the December 2023 reporting period fell under Management Occupations while 8,038 job postings fell under Healthcare Practitioners and Technical, showing continued strong demand for experienced and healthcare talent in our region.
- There are currently about 1,131 postings indicating vaccination requirements, a decrease of 58 postings compared to the previous month. Top employers mentioning vaccination requirements include CVS Health, KPMG and Aveanna Healthcare.
- 2,003 postings offered signing bonuses, a decrease of 12 postings when compared to the previous month.
- Sixty percent, or 34,030 of available job postings pay an annual median wage between $25,000 to $75,000. Of these, 47% or 15,845 will require a high school diploma as the entry-level education, and 14% or 4,787 will require at least a bachelor’s degree.
- There are about 713 internship positions posted, in-person or remote. The top three companies with the most postings are Amazon, AMD and Cirrus Logic.
- There are about 3,281 jobs posted within the Austin venture capital, startup, scaleup, and innovation ecosystem on the Austin Ecosystem Dealroom Platform as of December 12, 2023.
- According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Austin MSA reported the unemployment rate at 3.0% in December 2023, slightly lower than the prior month. The total number of unemployed in the Austin MSA is about 44,500. In December 2023, there were 11,800 more available job postings than the unemployed a 1,400 increase compared to the prior month.
- In December 2023, the Austin region saw a total of about 2,169 jobs announced through new relocations or expansion plans. Announcing new location plans were companies such as, Aispex (Brookshire, TX) creating 250 jobs, Hans Laser (Scenzhen, China) creating 300 jobs, MSS International (South Korea) creating 10 jobs and Peinado Construction (Frisco, TX creating 12 jobs. The expansion list represents 1,597 jobs. The list includes, Aispex, Hans Laser, MSS International and Peinado Construction.
