INSIGHTS
- There were approximately 68,769 available job postings during the July 2024 monthly reporting period, an increase of 4,523 from 64,246 postings in June 2024. There were 27,839 new (first-time) job postings, an increase of 3,595 from the previous month. New job postings in June 2024 represented 41% of all available job postings, an increase of 3% from June 2024. New job postings decreased by about 4% in the Austin and San Antonio metros, while the Houston and Dallas metros saw a 7.5% increase compared to the previous month.
- Approximately 12%, or 8,320, of all available job postings during the July 2024 reporting period fell under Management Occupations, while 8,164 postings were for Healthcare Practitioners and Technical roles, and an additional 2,010 were for Healthcare Support roles, showing continued strong demand for experienced and healthcare talent in our region.
- There are currently about 1,044 postings indicating vaccination requirements, a decrease of 108 jobs compared to the previous month. Top employers mentioning vaccination requirements include California State University, CVS Health, and Aveanna Healthcare.
- 2,265 postings offered signing bonuses, an increase of 57 compared to the previous month.
- Fifty-eight percent, or 38,610, of available job postings pay an annual median wage between $25,000 and $75,000. Of these, 47%, or 18,218, require a high school diploma as the entry-level education, and 16%, or 6,029, require at least a bachelor’s degree.
- There are about 720 internship positions posted, both in-person and remote. The top three companies with the most postings are Amazon, Annapurna Labs, and VF.
- There are about 1,686 jobs posted within the Austin venture capital, startup, scaleup, and innovation ecosystem on the Austin Ecosystem Dealroom Platform as of July 12, 2024.
- According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Austin MSA reported an unemployment rate of 3.8% in July 2024, an increase of 0.6% from the prior month. The total number of unemployed in the Austin MSA is about 56,100. In July 2024, there were 12,610 more available job postings than the number of unemployed, a decrease of 9,159 compared to the previous month.
- In July 2024, the Austin region saw a total of about 340 jobs announced through new relocations or expansion plans. Companies announcing new location plans included Ascendion (Basking Ridge, NJ) with 140 jobs, Gorilla (Antwerp, Belgium) with 15 jobs, and Sourcability (Doral, FL). The expansion list represents 185 new jobs, including companies like Acutronic Aerospace Components Division, Dappier, Noveon Magnetics, Paradigm Manufacturing, Procore, and Strategic Thermal Labs.
