The Surge: July 2026

Sustainable Growth as a Competitive Advantage

Economic growth in Central Texas isn’t happening in one city or one sector. It’s happening across a region working to align investment, infrastructure, workforce, and quality of life with the needs of a changing economy.

This month, Site Selection named the Austin metro the No. 1 U.S. metro for sustainability for the fifth consecutive year and recognized Opportunity Austin with the Mac Conway Award for Economic Development Excellence for the ninth year. Together, these recognitions point to a broader competitive reality. Companies and site selectors are placing greater emphasis on markets that can support expansion responsibly, reliably, and at scale. For the Austin region, this means sustainability isn’t only an environmental priority. It’s part of a forward-looking economic development strategy that’s reflected in major projects, community wins, infrastructure investment, and long-term regional growth.
